I'm really quite a mess
I don't really know how to relate to my parents place without her there. I honestly went to visit the cat more than the parents. She's been my pet for two thirds of my life and an even more significant percentage for my little brother. When I moved out of home for the first time, I didn't keep a framed picture of my family beside my bed, I kept a framed picture of my cat! Yes, I really am that hopeless.
I may attempt a portrait painting of her in time, however, I'm scared I couldn't do her justice. She was such a mish-mash of colours.
So for now Im creating collages to print up for my walls. The one above is her just looking adorable, I particularly like the one of her posing in front of a picture of herself.
The burial was quite a miserable and ridiculous exercise. It had been drizzling rain all day which made the ground a little softer on top. We found a spot next to her claw sharpening tree, it has a big brown patch of scratches and missing bark. They dug and dug and at about half the needed depth, hit a water pipe.Spot number two was one of her favourite garden sleeping spots, the vegetation flattened in a circular pattern from her constantly lying on top. They dug and dug again and at about half the required depth, hit a gas pipe. So while filling that hole back in the rain started getting heavier. Spot number three on the other side of the house, no longer a significant area we were just pretty sure there would be no pipes there. They dug and dug and reached a good depth now in the mud and rain. When mum had brought the body home she wrapped her in a towel with her head exposed so we could all say goodbye and placed her in a cardboard box that was about the right size. We also put in her favourite toy and her drinking bowl, which was actually a fancy soap dish that she decided should be her drinking bowl instead. It was only when we had bundled the box up and tied a big ribbon that we realised it was a "depends" box. *shakes head*
So we said our goodbyes and stood in the rain and the mud in the most miserable little ceremony you've ever seen.
Ive decided I want to get a memorial marker stone made up.
Its probably a big rip-off waste of money but I just feel I have to do something significant.
I'm still shopping around but it seems there aren't many people doing them here in Australia, but there are heaps overseas. Shipping a rock internationally is going to cost a fortune.
Nothing too ridiculous and over the top, more like this

You may have better luck getting a brass plaque engraved and then screwed to an appropriate stone.
i'm sure you could find an appropriate rock and carefully cut the appropriate engravings yourself. it would mean more and you could fill the cutouts with paint then seal it with a light clearcoat afterwards.
