Splendour in the pants

I'm halfway home from Splendour, stopped off for a couple of hours to give myself a break from driving. Also probably because I dont want the weekend to be over.
I dont have any more upcomig events to look forward too just back to my boring everyday life of crime.
*sigh*

We arrived Friday afternoon. The house we were staying in was fantastic; large rooms, pressed cielings, interesting furniture, beds to spare, spa bath, ensuite and bizairre artworks. The most bizairre of with was a blockmounted poster of a sex book and paintings of monkeys possibly using toilets.

With the alcohol arriving hours later and no computer or a book I decided to go for a walk to the festival grounds and scope it all out. We had under-estimated the walking time dramtically and it took almost an hour. However I arrived in time to see the celebrations at the most awesome campsite at the festival. Dan-Yell's setup was truly amazing and I suddenly wished I'd camped. Keep an eye on J-TV for footage.

Then it was back to the house for Gumbo and Rumba

Saturday I managed to squeeze in viewings of; Dungen, Death Cab for Cutie, The Grates, Something for Kate, The Avalanches, Sonic Youth and DJ Shadow.
The highlights were definately Death Cab and The Grates. The whole, build-up-a-second-drumkit-while-we-are-playing-for-a-solo-and-then
-take-it-apart-before-the-end-of-the-song-trick was pretty nifty. Actually, just seeing Death Cab on stage in front of me was nifty and surreal. The Grates were delightful and energetic as always, but when the crowd started the surging and falling over thing, I decided I would enjoy it more with dancing space instead of being close and completely squashed. Which I certainly did.

I also got to sample the food delights of: Steak and Onion Burger, Spaghetti Junction Garlic Bread and an Organic Doughnut. The burger was dripping in so much gravy I could taste nothing else and kept getting it on my face. Spaghetti Junction show up at a lot of festivals and are always at Woodford so I allready knew their garlic bread was fantastic. The doughnuts were expensive byut very large and filling. I'd really like to try those again but where do I find them? TELL ME!

Sunday I squeezed in viewings of; The Vines, Clare Bowditch and the Feeding Set, Jose Gonzalez, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Gerling, Wolfmother and the Scissor Sisters. The highlights being THE WHOLE FUCKING DAY! Umm, no highlights were Jose, Gerling and Scissor Sisters. I found myself tearing up during Jose because it was all so beautiful. I danced up a storm at Gerling A MUD STORM. They always do great live shows and this was as good, if not better, then their set at Come Together. Deepfryer (Ole) absolutely went off, the whole crowd went SPASTIC, ahh, I love those boys. The Scissor Sisters were everything I hoped for. They were flamboyant and sexual and rocking. Jake Shears makes a sexy-ass silhouette.

The Vines was a big suprise and I'm stoked I've seen them play, I wouldnt have called myself a big fan before but now I do. It was a great performance.
Food sampled on sunday was "The Feast" from Govindas which I think contained (but my memory is hazy) Jasmine Rice, Vegetable Curry, Kofta Balls with Chutney and Halavah pudding. All of which was delicious.

The two down points of the weekend both happened on the Sunday. Firstly there was the security guy at the G. W. McLennen tent who kept trying to give away one of our seats while similtaneously preventing the person who was sitting there from returning to it. Nice work, douchebag. The second was the lack of security and organisation at the bus queues on the sunday night. The previous night security had to deal with some selfish loud mouthed assholes but they kept everything orderly and fair. On the sunday they seemed conspiciously absent and there was a lot of pushing in, and general rudeness. I ended up being so frustrated and angry at peoples completely horrible and very 'not splendour' behaviour that I quit the queue and walked back, rather than snapping and stomping the fuck out of peoples faces. It turned out to be a very entertaining journey. A guy jumped off a bridge into the river because his mate told him he wouldnt know 'real cold' till he got in there. I had a fascinating conversation with a guy who informed me that if we were going to have a fight we would have already had a fight right then but since we didnt have a fight we wernt going to have a fight and DID I KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS??!? DID I? and lastly but best was a guy who was jogging along the path declaring that he was a local out for a jog, because thats what a local would do, go for a jog at night and he's jogging so he must be a local. When he caught up with me he gave me a hard time for 'just walking' so I pointed out that I was walking faster than he was jogging. He raised an eyebrow and said "ahhh, you must be a local then" and then turned sharply and ran directly off the path and into the scrub, still declaring that he was "just out for a jog!" he made it about 10 metres in before branches and sticks knocked him down. Crazy people are the best people.

Overall, I had a ball and want to again, right now.

Liz: Two turntables and a Ken phone number. We are gonna teach those trees all about beats, and they wont forget it.

Pac: HA, I forgot I had a go at him. He did redeem himself by letting Mikey in though.

Racho: It's so pretty, I should have taken more shots of the general venue.
